Who I am

Jimmy Lim. Building on the web since around 2000: software engineering, cloud infrastructure and security, and engineering mentoring, based between London and Southeast Asia (Malaysia / Singapore).

I take on a small number of consulting engagements directly: no account managers, no handoffs.

What I believe

Build for the long run.

Simple, clear technology: straightforward pricing, mature open-source foundations, solutions that run without drama. I’d rather hand over something you can maintain than something impressive that breaks quietly.

Side projects

Things I build and run on the side.

  • scout, a fast terminal file explorer with live git status and syntax-highlighted previews
  • inari, a herd of local AI agents you run on your own hardware via Ollama
  • spec-md, an AI-agent-aware technical spec format for engineers and agents
  • piperpiperpiper, a job curator
  • alldaycity, an AI bulletin
  • the forest origin, rare wood products
  • kuda, a Go MUD client for Aardwolf
  • 帝王战纪:三国录 (teio-senki), a Python three kingdoms grand-strategy engine
  • iron and alms, a Go tactical RPG (design settled, no code yet)
  • aimusic, open-source AI-assisted music (concept stage)

Common questions

What kind of work do you take on?

Web engineering, cloud infrastructure and security, and engineering mentoring. Code: Python, Go, TypeScript, Ruby, PHP. Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD. I work remotely; email me and we can talk through what you need.

I just need a simple website, can you help?

Yes. For small sites I usually recommend static pages or WordPress on pages.alldaycity.com, with a walkthrough so you can manage it yourself afterwards.

How does pricing work?

Fixed quotes where possible, hourly where scope is genuinely uncertain. No surprises: if something changes mid-project, you’ll hear about it before it affects cost.
