Backslash does work in virtual box

Backslash or slash does not work using Mac OSX as host and Windows XP as Guest. The solution is make sure that in your windows XP installation, the keyboard entry is US English and not others like GB English. The backspace will work fine after reboot.

Apparently you can install windows XP on any brand of laptop or pcs using a dell XP CD. Just go thru normal installation and after installation, it will prompt you for activation. Click on activate using phone, then a button “change product key” will appear. You may use the original product key here. Then click back and activate online. Now your XP is authentic and original.

Impressed that microsoft provided an antivirus for public use. Worth a try. My initial loading of the software didnt bring any problems. I used it together with NOD32 without any problems.

hmm just heard of the news that a game i used to be in has been shut down. Its one of those text based games where you spend about 5 minutes a day to maintain your character. Its free and the community is massive. Tiipsi was its name. I vaguely remember. The concept is good as it lets communities grow while there was a main theme to it. Oh well. There was a sudden urge to rebuild it, but what the heck. Maybe later

So you want a PhD. Why do you need a phd?

for glory, oooo a Dr;. for more knowledge; for a good career; for noble cause; or just nothing else to do?

Embarking on a career for Phd is to prepare you to be an independent researcher. Research is about finding answers. Answers to solutions. So to find answers, you must know the environment.

Read read read, know what you are dealing with or love to deal with. Then its time to find the loop holes. Why? is your friend. Why why why? then make a guess of why and you are on a your journey to prove your guess. Just like sherlock. A hypothesis and a proof. That is research.

Some researchers try to make their research sound complicated. but in our current work where public is power. Simplicity is your best friend. A professor once told me “if something is too complicated. Use the stupidiest way to solve it.” And once you do. use the simpliest way to explain it.

In Dec 2009: A security flaw found in SSL that is applied on websites was noted. A researcher informed various companies but only Google responded. Flaw allows hackers to access cookie history and buyers information.

When will programmers become designers

When programmers learns to become designers, we will have peace on earth. Its pointless to invent a tool that has 1000 controls and can manipulate the world. Chance is, the inventor wont remember what the tool does anyway. Keep it Bleeding simple.

Servers, mail services, the lot. Just need 1 button. Play and Do what its supposed to be… very well. With such rapid growth of development. It is astonishing to see how much detail is needed to get a single task completed. 98% of the time, people need a tool to do a simple task. So design the tool to be simple for that 98%. Have cool millions of other features in your tool? Great! hide it. Noone else wants to know, and until that 2% asks, keep it in the bag.

Softwares and applications nowadays, should be self-healing, self-environment aware, scalable and flexible. Servers have millions of uses..Yes.. but 98% need it just to serve webpages. 98% just need it to handle mail. Focusing to excel on these 2 points will cure 98% of the problem.

Working on new site taoism

Hmm. work has commenced on taoism.org.uk and a new web application called chenggu. Using sqlite, which is fantastic, the database was compressed to a filesize of 97kb. The data works using PDO from php. These few weeks, work will continue on chenggu. Iphone is considered as a platform for this development. However it only supports cocoa development only in objectiveC. will have to look into alternatives or when it supports python as a language to implement iphone applications in.
