Backslash or slash does not work using Mac OSX as host and Windows XP as Guest. The solution is make sure that in your windows XP installation, the keyboard entry is US English and not others like GB English. The backspace will work fine after reboot.

Apparently you can install windows XP on any brand of laptop or pcs using a dell XP CD. Just go thru normal installation and after installation, it will prompt you for activation.
